Action Network for Migrant Workers (ACTFORM) has issued a media statement in lieu of International Migrants Day 2012. It’s available in Sinhala, Tamil and English.
ACTFORM was one of the organizers of the joint programme on “Commemoration of the International Day of Migrants – 12 in 12 joint campaign for rights and protection of domestic workers”. It was held on the 18th of December, 2011.
ACTFORM produced a documentary on Ariyawathie from Hakmana, Matara (in the Southern Province) who was inhumanely tortured while working in Saudi Arabia in 2010 by her employers who hammered nails into various parts of her body. The Action Network for Migrant Workers (ACTFORM) organized a press conference in October 2011 with government officials in order to discuss the ILO Convention 189 on Domestic Workers and the current state of Sri Lankan women migrant workers.
The activity plans of the district level member organizations of ACTFORM were discussed.
