Consultation: “Women, Work, and Well Being: What are returnee women migrants telling us?”

A consultation hosted by WMC with the theme “Women, Work, and Well Being: What are returnee women migrants telling us?” was held on the 4th of April 2013 at Hotel Renuka in Colombo 03. The primary focus was to share the preliminary findings of the research that WMC conducted with Returnee Migrant women workers in the Kurunegala district in the North Western Province which is a high ‘outmigration’ area. WMC also invited presentations from researchers who have carried out very recent research on the theme of Return and Reintegration. There were presentations from the University of Colombo on their most recent extensive work on return and reintegration, from an ILO/ Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau pilot project that was undertaken by the Women’s Resource Centre, Kurunegala, and a presentation on Wellbeing and Challenges of children of migrant workers by the Suriya Women’s Development Centre in Batticaloa (Eastern province).
