Celebrating International Migrants Day 2012

The Action Network for Migrant Workers (ACTFORM) and Women and Media Collective (WMC) celebrated the 13th Annual International Migrants Day on the 18th of December 2012. It is a day to remember the plight of these migrant women who leave their homes to build a better future their family and of course the economy of Sri Lanka.

This year Migrants Day was celebrated at a time their efforts are being officially recgonised to ensure that their rights and well being is protected. ACTFORM disregards implementation of laws and policies by various powers to prevent these women from selecting work of their choice.

ACTFORM and WMC calls on the government to safeguard the rights of migrant workers who contribute immensely to the country.

Let’s appreciate migrant labour and make a better tomorrow for them!
