Gender and leadership workshop: Trade Union Women Claiming Political Leadership

A four day residential training programme, Stepping Stones, for trade union women on gender and leadership was held in two phases on the 19th and 20th November and on the 17th and 18th December , 2013 in Colombo.

The objective if this workshop was to train the trade union members as gender and leadership trainees for the future. The module designed by the WMC for trade union women members on gender and leadership was tested at these workshops. A total of 37 participants from trade unions participated at this training workshop. Ms. Shamila Daluwatta facilitated the sessions for the training. The workshop was conducted with lot of interaction sessions and using media and new media (internet, YouTube, blogs, song clips, videos etc..)

The content of the training included:
• Introduction on trade union women and leadership
• Gender and trade union
• Women, labor and trade union rights
• Promoting gender in the workplace
• Leadership, self motivation, networking and empowerment
• From trade unions to mainstream politics
