International Women’s Day 2012
Member organizations of Mothers and Daughters of Lanka (MDL) from all over the country, including WMC, organized a protest march and demonstration on the 8th of March 2012, in front of the Fort Railway Station. It focused on the challenges faced by women in the current climate of increasing cost of living and inflation.
Commemoration of the International Day of Migrants
ACTFORM was one of the organizers of the joint programme on “Commemoration of the International Day of Migrants – 12 in 12 joint campaign for rights and protection of domestic workers”. It was held on the 18th of December, 2011.
Greater accountability and commitment by the Government towards International Conventions (CEDAW and MR Convention)
Representations were made with the NGO Shadow Report before the CEDAW Committee with special focus in the areas of political representation, legal reform and conflict recovery. The Committee called for a follow up report in these areas in 2 years.
Advocacy for translating migrant worker policy into law and its enforcement
WMC representative is a member of the National Advisory Committee on Labour Migration Policy. We have proposed district level committees involving local government bodies, divisional secretariats and community organizations to initiate better linkages for implementation of aspects of the policy. Local Government Election 2011
WMC ஆனது 2011 உள்ளுராட்சித் தேர்தலில் பெண்களின் நியமனங்களையும், பெண்களுக்கான வாக்குகளையும் அதிகரித்துக் கொள்வதற்கான பிரச்சாரங்களில் ஈடுபட்டது. (பிரச்சார விபரங்களுக்காக ஊடகப் பக்கத்தைப் பார்க்குக.) WMC வினால் மொத்தமாக 181 பெண்கள் வரும் உள்ளுராட்சித் தேர்தலுக்காக முன்வைக்கப்பட்டதுடன், 72 பேர் நியமனங்களைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டனர். இவ் வேட்பாளர்களில் 11 பெண்களுக்கு உள்ளுராட்சித் தேர்தலில் தங்களின் உரிய மாவட்டங்களில் வாக்களிக்கப்பட்டது. Press conference organized by ACTFORM
The Action Network for Migrant Workers (ACTFORM) organized a press conference in October 2011 with government officials in order to discuss the ILO Convention 189 on Domestic Workers and the current state of Sri Lankan women migrant workers.
