Women journalists shine at the Journalism Awards 2012
The Women and Media Collective together with other concerned representatives of women’s organisations wish to express our dismay at the continuing statements made by Sri Lankan parliamentarians belittling Sri Lankan women’s role and contributions to society.
This year, Sri Lankan Trade Unions are planning to highlight the Rights of Women Workers as part of the issues that will be raised in the workers’ rallies on May 1st. The WMC protests and condemns articles published in the front page of the Ceylon Today newspaper on the 22nd of January 2012, page 12 of its Sinhala newspaper ‘Mawbima’ on the 23rd of January and, the online editions of both newspapers regarding a woman drunk driver.
