Ambassadorship presented to Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala by the Minister of Women’s Affairs

Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala the first Sri Lankan to summit Mount Everest was presented with the Ambassadorship for the protection of women’s rights and an end to violence against women by the Hon. Minister Chandrani Bandara from the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, today. The Ambassadorship to Jayanthi was granted for the next three years.

It is with immense pride that we honour Jayanthi as it cannot be described in words what she has done for our country and women in particular said Hon. Minister Bandara. While talking about her experience Jayanthi said that she hopes her journey has proven that women can do anything if given an equal opportunity. “Women can do anything if they put their minds to it” she said.
