The Local Authority Elections of 10 February 2018 are historic as it introduces a mixed member propotional electoral system and for the first time in our political history a quota for women that will enable 25% women’s representation.

The Women and Media Collective has launched a campaign to ensure public understanding of the significance of the women’s quota and the importance of women’s representation in Local Authorities. This quota was won over a long period of struggle and we wish to discuss some of the challenges faced by women and support it’s implementation.
