As a tribute to all migrant workers of Sri Lanka Action Network for Migrant Workers (ACTFORM) together with Women and Media Collective (WMC) organised the 14th Annual International Migrants Day on the 21 of December at the Mahaveli Centre.
This year we not only celebrated our women workers but also their families, especially children who are left behind when their mothers seek employment abroad. An essay, art and poetry competition was held and the winning children were awarded prizes while their creativity was exhibited.
Mangala Randeniya of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment was the chief guest at this event. There were over 300 audience members from government offices, embassies, NGO’s and of course migrant workers.
