On behalf of women\u2019s organization in the country the Women and Media Collective organized a media briefing in Colombo, on the 17th of October, to highlight the demands made by women in the recently drafted women\u2019s manifesto.<\/p>\n

The women\u2019s manifesto is a call to all presidential candidates, contesting for the presidential elections of 2019.<\/p>\n

According to the women\u2019s manifesto, the abolishment of the executive presidential system is top priority while an independent judiciary, legal provisions for women in decision making, a National Commission on Women, a progressive education system, the protection of socio-economic and political rights of citizens and a transitional justice mechanism are several key areas addressed in the draft document.<\/p>\n
