{"id":240,"date":"2006-11-21T06:11:35","date_gmt":"2006-11-21T06:11:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/womenandmedia.org\/?p=240"},"modified":"2006-11-21T06:11:35","modified_gmt":"2006-11-21T06:11:35","slug":"preparation-of-migrant-rights-alternative-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/womenandmedia.org\/si\/preparation-of-migrant-rights-alternative-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Preparation of Migrant Rights Alternative Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two consultative meetings were held, in May and November 2006, with government officials and relevant NGOs working on migrant rights issues, to determine the type of data that should be included and brought to the attention of the Migrant Rights Committee.\u2028The Sri Lankan Government, as part of its obligation under the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families, ratified in 1996 and entered into force in 2003 has now been requested to submit its First Periodic Report to the Committee on Migrant Workers. Non Government Organisations (NGOs) and Community Based Organisations (CBOs) working on issues of Migrant Workers are also required to submit an Alternative Report to the above mentioned Committee, providing information on the current situation of Sri Lankan Migrant Workers and their rights. With this aim, the Action Network for Migrant Workers (ACTFORM) is coordinating the preparation of the Report, which will be presented to the Migrant Rights Committee in 2008.
