The award ceremony and screening of Women and Media Collective\u2019s short film competition was held on April 2 at the Namel Malini Punchi theatre in Colombo. The winners of the 2013 competition produced telling films that portrays real life situations faced by women in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n

Winners of WMC\u2019s 2013 short film competition:<\/em><\/p>\n

First place – Sivalingam Sivaraj for ‘The Balance’<\/p>\n

Second place – Sanath Dissanayake for ‘Sithuwili’<\/p>\n

Third place – A.S. Mahroof for ‘Achamillai Achamillai’<\/p>\n

Short listed – J.M. Risham for ‘Purathchi Poo’<\/p>\n

The selection process for the short film competition is initiated by calling for scripts from all contestants. In 2013, WMC received 124 Sinhalese scripts, 19 Tamil and 12 English scripts. 23 of the best scripts were then shortlisted, out of which 14 films were submitted for the competition.
