Job Description: Executive Director

The Women and Media Collective (WMC) – a feminist organization working on women’s rights and gender equality – seeks a leader with strong feminist values as their Executive Director.  The candidate will be a dynamic, experienced, values-driven leader capable of building on WMC’s history of working towards social transformation through media advocacy, research, and coalition building.

Once selected, the Executive Director will be responsible for conceptualizing the WMC’s strategy for achieving its vision of a society built on the principles of equality and non-discrimination, and free from violence and militarization.  The ED will be advised by two Technical Advisors, and will report directly to the Board of Directors.

Essential Functions

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the strategic visioning, conceptual development, planning and monitoring of WMC’s work.
  • Oversee implementation of the organization’s strategic plan, operational budget and fund raise.
  • Coordinate a leadership team of Operations and Finance Directors and Program Staff
  • Foster a vibrant and supportive environment that promotes personal responsibility, quality work and commitment to WMC goals and values.

Internal and External Relations

  • Lead all fundraising efforts to effectively sustain the organization.
  • Represent WMC locally and internationally.
  • Manage positive and productive partner relationships with funders, networks and with national and
  • international organizations.
  • Initiate, actively participate in and oversee internal processes for WMC staff that build skills and commitment to organizational values.
  • Demonstrate effective, values-driven leadership.

Qualifications

  • A degree from a recognized local or international university in a relevant area including the social sciences, humanities, law, and management. (a post-graduate qualification will be preferred.)
  • At least 10 years proven experience in a senior management capacity in a national or international organization

Competencies

  • Commitment to and experience in leading with feminist values and shaping and sustaining a diverse, inclusive organizational culture.
  • Knowledge and sensitivity to current socio-political trends in Sri Lanka as well as a strong commitment to feminist values, principles of gender equality, and social justice are fundamental to this position
  • Proven track record of fundraising and all aspects of donor relationship management.
  • Financial management and oversight of large budgets.
  • Strategic visioning and planning with experience growing an organization while ensuring national and global relevance.
  • Proven track record of publications
  • Personal integrity and transparency, serving as a role model for others.
  • Effective communicator with enthusiasm and willingness to champion WMC values.
  • Keen appreciation of quality and standards with ability to take responsibility for delivering results.

Remuneration
