WMC TikTok ‘‘Lets look at Care Work in a new way’

A TikTok competition to make a difference, Reduce Housework – Reduce Work Pressure.

By now you must have made a lot of different TikToks of various kinds. Now it’s time for a different kind of TikTok video.

The Women and Media Collective invite you to make a TikTok about the Care Work Women do daily, without any payment or benefit.

Housework, children’s work, the care of elders and disabled persons, and providing the necessary services for the household and the family are just a few of the numerous tasks that fall under the term “Care Work”. These Services are provided by women without any payment and are therefore termed “Unpaid Care Work “. This largely invisible service while relatively ignored by us is actually considered hidden labor that contributes significantly to the Development and the Economy of the Country and yet there is no official record of this contribution in any census data.

The real situation is that women are not included in the labor force of the country despite carrying a heavy burden of labor. But many of us don’t care much about its value and sometimes underestimate or even insult it and make fun of it. Even the handful of men who do security work is not accepted in our society. It has a negative effect on our culture, our children, especially boys, and it is our own people who are releasing these misogynistic views to society.

We need a change in the social system where we should be honest, respect each other and share the care work in harmony. Social Media can be a massive tool for making this social change. We invite you to make a good TikTok and tag us @wmctikto so that others can think about the places that need to change. Among them, the 20 best TikTok creators will get Rs. 5000/-
