On International Women’s Day we organized for a discussion in appreciation of veteran journalist Seetha Ranjani. Seetha is a dear friend of Women and Media Collective since it was formed in 1984. She is a feminist, journalist, civil society activist and a poet.
Seetha has been a prominent figure in the struggle for media freedom in the country. She has raised issues faced by journalists and especially women journalists through her activism. On the other hand, her poetry has reached the hearts of many. Her poems have been used as songs by several well known female artists in Sri Lanka.
As a way of appreciation for her endless contribution to civil society, WMC organized for a discussion about Seetha on women’s day. As women’s day is the same day Seetha’s birthday, the event brought together close friends and well-wishers including artists Visharada Charitha Priyadharshani, Visharada Pradeepa Dharmadasa and Visharada Deepika Priyadharshani, journalists Deepani Da Silva, Dilrukshi Handunetti and Hannah Ibrahim, writer Cathelin Jayawardena and presenter Chithra Kumari Kalubowila.
