Break the Bias: events on March 8th (IWD 2022)

To celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) we are hosting a few special events on the 8th of March. These events are of importance to us for many reasons. It’s because they are about recognizing women as they navigate through male dominated workplaces, about their willingness to overcome barriers and confront any forms of discrimination faced. We are celebrating these women for breaking the bias and continuing with their contribution to society.
In appreciation of veteran journalist Seetha Ranjani, we have organized a discussion to talk about her previous work and achievements. Seetha has been a friend of the Women and Media Collective for many years dating back to when WMC was formed as an organization in 1984. She is one of the very few women journalists who has been actively involved in addressing issues journalists face in the country. Therefore, it is with pleasure that we take this opportunity to host Seetha as a woman journalist, feminist, civil society activist and poet for this years women’s day.
There will also be an audio series online featuring women from different fields sharing their thoughts, challenges and how they have overcome these challenges in their area of work. The audio series will be posted on our social media sites.
Lastly, we are supporting the felicitation of 5 Tamil women in media on women’s day for their completion of 50 years in the industry. They have made several efforts in raising issues surrounding women’s rights and gender equality during their years as media persons.
We hope to have more details about these events in the coming days. Let us know your thoughts by liking, sharing, and commenting on the posts we share.
Happy International Women’s Day!
